Time With the Grandkids

In March I had the wonderful blessing of spending a little extra time with the grandkids.

On Easter the family gathered for dinner and a little "together time."

The last weekend in March I was able to spend time with Jayden, Tegan, & Mayci while Sheryl vacationed in California. Surprisingly, Mayci wanted to stay with me an extra day. This Grandma was thrilled since she is such a Mama's girl. She sat very patiently while I tried out a new hairstyle on her, then proceeded to chatter on two princess phones and prepare food in her kitchen. Tegan enjoyed climbing on the back of the couch and then "falling" off and spends some quiet time building. Jayden was pleased as punch when he beat me in a game of Mouse Trap. It was satisfying to see how well the kids got along and pitched right in to finish their chores. I had a wonderful time!

Quilt Tying Frenzy

This week my sister, Jolene, has been in town from Henderson, Nevada for Spring Break. Yesterday Nancy and I joined her for a sisters' marathon of tying baby quilts. Jolene's 12th & 13th grandbabies are due to be born in April and July.

We always have such a good time. For some reason, there's a laugh a minute whenever the three of us are together.

Clive's Faux Pas

Clive and I are currently in the midst of tearing out our OLD, nasty, grimy, out-dated bathroom. While shopping for a new vanity I found just what I needed ... a vanity with a L-A-R-G-E drawer in the bottom ... 6X more drawer space! It was a little more pricey than some of the others, but I insisted that I had to have the drawer in a bathroom too tiny for any storage. So we loaded up our purchases and waited for three months to finally get started on the job. Upon closer examination, Clive discovered that the plumbing and the vent were in the way of the drawer and there was NO WAY it could be installed. I pouted, complained, shed a few tears and then agreed to exchange it for a similar model WITHOUT the spacious bottom drawer.

Yesterday Clive made arrangements with a friend to borrow his services (and his truck) to haul the vanity back to the store to make the exchange. I had given him the original sales receipt which he readily left behind. The clerk happily accepted the vanity in exchange for store credit. He then loaded the new vanity on the flat and took it to the check-out stand for purchase. Strangely, the price was identical to the one he had just returned. He shrugged his shoulders, thinking we must have bought it on a sale. However, upon examination, he discovered that he had just returned the exact same vanity that he had just purchased! He never did buy the one with the extra drawer.

I laughed so hard that I almost fell off my chair. I'm still laughing!!!

Girls' Day & Greeting Cards

For the first time in over a year we held a Witbeck Girls' Day at my house. Our crazy schedules seem to keep us from regular meetings, but we have all missed having them. So ... my two daughters, Sheryl and Marisa, my daughter-in-law, Melanie, and my niece, Lorie Jo and I had a mad-cap morning of card-making. Each of us designed two (or three) cards and supplied the materials for the others to make them. By the time we left, each had 11 new greeting cards in hand. Unfortunately, my camera batteries lost their charge and Sheryl forgot to put her memory card back into her camera, so we were unable to take any photos of our work in progress. We had a great time and look forward to our next day together.

Relief Society Birthday Social

Last Tuesday night was the culmination of months of hard work in preparation for our Relief Society Birthday Social. Following the theme of Love One Another, the evening began with Carol Warburton, author & neighbor, as speaker with two wonderful musical renditions. We were served a delicious meal by the priesthood brethren. The hall was beautifully decorated in pinks and mauves with statues of Christ adorning each table. Door prizes of hand-crocheted doilies were given to eight lucky sisters and each went home with a replica of Christ with outstretched arms. There were nearly 60 sisters in attendance. It was a lovely evening. I'm grateful for my Enrichment leader and her committee who worked so tirelessly to make it a huge success.

Spencer Enters His Second Quarter Century

Last night we celebrated Spencer's 26th birthday.

He requested homemade lasagna for his birthday dinner.

He was joined by his roommates, Terry & Ryan and some of the family ... Clive, Wendy, Kevin, & Marisa & Jonathan.

He had a challenge making a wish and blowing out his trick candles, but we all enjoyed a red velvet cake and ice cream.

He received just what he asked for ... some kitchen canisters and a spice rack. His gift list has certainly changed since becoming a homeowner!
Happy Birthday, Spencer. We love you!
